Meet Joey, a magnificent long-haired German Shepherd who recently travelled with us from Portugal to Germany. Behind his beautiful coat, expressive eyes, and gentle nature was a dog carrying more than just luggage—he was carrying worry for someone he loved.
Joey's owner had recently emerged from a coma after a serious stay in hospital. Although dogs can't tell us what they're thinking, anyone who spent time with Joey could see that he knew something wasn't quite right. He was quieter than most dogs, often thoughtful, and seemed to be missing the person he cared about most.
Joey wasn't your average passenger.
Due to ongoing health conditions, he required a carefully managed routine throughout the journey. He needed feeding three times a day and regular walks every couple of hours to keep him comfortable and happy.
For us, that meant planning every stage of the trip around Joey's wellbeing. More stops, more attention, more monitoring, and plenty of one-on-one care.
And honestly? He deserved every bit of it.
Despite everything he had been through, Joey remained one of the sweetest dogs we've ever had the pleasure of transporting.
Every time we stopped, he would eagerly stretch his legs, enjoy a gentle walk, and soak up all the attention he could get. Over the miles, a bond quickly formed. Joey wasn't just a passenger anymore—he became part of the team.
His trusting nature, calm temperament, and gentle personality made it impossible not to fall in love with him.
Long-haired German Shepherds are known for their loyalty, intelligence, and devotion to their families, and Joey was the perfect example.
Even during a long international journey, he remained patient, cooperative, and incredibly well behaved. Whether he was enjoying one of his frequent walks, relaxing comfortably during travel, or accepting a well-deserved cuddle, Joey handled everything with remarkable grace.
The most rewarding part of any journey is seeing a pet arrive safely where they belong.
After travelling across Europe, Joey finally reached Germany, where a loving family was waiting for him. Knowing that his owner was recovering and that Joey was once again surrounded by the people who cared for him made this journey especially meaningful.
Stories like Joey's remind us that pet transport is about much more than moving animals from one place to another. It's about helping families stay connected, even during life's most difficult moments.
